Sunshine Coast HOG Chapter | Advanced Roadcraft Coaching Day

October 27, 2024 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm AEST

Free

SMART Rider Academy’s Advanced Roadcraft Coaching Day is guaranteed to Transform Your Riding.

For over 15 years the SMART Rider Academy team have been helping riders to think smarter, ride safer and enjoy their riding more.

It’s not about teaching you to ride or changing your style! It’s about honouring the experience you have, refining the skills you’ve developed and helping you to get more out of your motorcycle – so you can ride with more comfort, confidence and skill.

Sunshine Coast Harley Owners Group has received grant funding to subsidise this event through TMR’s “Ride to Zero” initiative. This reduces the cost of the day from $295 to just $50 (payment will be collected by the Sunshine Coast HOG Chapter).

The day comprises a series of technical and theory discussions, practical skills sessions and road rides under the guidance of the highly experienced SMART Rider Academy coaching team. The morning sessions and lunch will be held at The Sands Tavern in Maroochydore and during the road rides you will travel through to Nambour and the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

The coaching team will work with you to:

  • improve your cornering lines and technique,
  • refine your braking skills so you can stop in a shorter distance,
  • develop more confidence in your slow speed skills, and
  • enhance your hazard identification and avoidance skills (yes, that means eliminating those “Oh CR@#” moments we all have!)

Coaches will work closely with you in small groups to identify areas that you could change to take your riding to a more advanced level. Many of us have many years on bikes but sometimes it’s just the little things we do that we can improve. Some people refer to those things as “bad habits”.

About SMART Rider Academy

SMART Rider Academy is a privately owned Australian company established to provide cost-effective training to motorcycle riders that improves their essential roadcraft skills and enjoyment of riding.

With funding support from Queensland Transport and Main Roads, SMART Rider Academy was the first organisation in the private sector to offer subsidised training to the motorcycle community in Queensland and is now the largest provider of post-licence road-based training in the state.

In 2017 SMART Rider Academy partnered with Queensland Police Service to create and deliver the “How to keep it UP-RIGHT” program. This program has now been delivered to over 1,400 riders in South East Queensland and is the model for the new “Ride to Zero” program being offered to clubs and not-for-profit organisations throughout Queensland.

Stephen McDowall, Director and Principal Coach, leads a training team that has worked extensively with motorcycle clubs, road safety and advisory groups and other organisations across Australia and internationally for over 20 years.
