A Better Way to Brake and Corner
Over years of coaching riders, we’ve seen the same cornering problem again and again.
Riders often focus on what happens once they’re in the corner — but many of the problems that show up actually begin well before the motorcycle is even leaned over.
Good cornering starts with how you read the corner, set your speed and prepare the motorcycle before you turn.
Ride with Confidence brings those elements together into a clear system for braking, corner setup and control.
You’ll learn the system, practise it on real roads closed to other traffic, and receive practical coaching to help you refine it.
The aim is simple: better decisions, smoother control and greater confidence every time you ride.
What You’ll Work On
➤ Braking and emergency stops
Develop a smoother, more effective braking technique and practise emergency braking so you can stop quickly while keeping the motorcycle stable and under control.
➤ Corner setup
Learn how to read the road ahead, choose your position, set your speed and prepare the motorcycle before you turn.
➤ Cornering lines
Understand how your line through a corner affects what you can see, the space you have available and how smoothly you can complete the turn.
➤ Braking in a corner
Learn how to manage the motorcycle if you need to reduce speed after you’ve already turned in.
➤ Tightening bends and changing road conditions
Recognise the clues that a corner is changing and learn how to adjust your approach before it becomes a problem.
➤ Bringing it all together
Combine braking, vision, positioning and cornering into a practical system you can use in your everyday riding.
Real Roads. No Traffic.
This isn’t a racetrack, and it isn’t a car park either.
The course runs on the roads around Wellcamp Airport while they’re closed to other road users.
That gives you the opportunity to work on braking and cornering in a real-road environment — with real corners, real road surfaces and real road geometry — without the distraction and pressure of normal traffic.
You can focus on the technique, repeat the exercises, make adjustments and feel the difference as your confidence and control improve.
It’s an ideal environment for developing road-riding skills that transfer directly back to everyday riding.
Who Is This Course For?
Ride with Confidence is for licensed riders who want to improve their braking and cornering, regardless of how long they’ve been riding.
You might be returning to riding after a break, wanting to build on the skills you already have, or simply looking to become smoother, more deliberate and more confident in your riding.
You don’t need to be a new rider — or have a particular problem with your riding — to benefit from this course.
If you want a structured, reliable approach to braking and cornering, practical coaching and the opportunity to work on your technique in a controlled environment, this course is for you.
How You’ll Learn
This is practical, coached training — because simply riding more laps around a circuit won’t fix a technique you don’t fully understand.
We’ll explain each technique, give you time to practise it, then work with you to refine what you’re doing and understand why it works.
➤ Small groups
Smaller numbers mean more individual feedback and more opportunity to work on the areas that matter to you.
➤ Practical coaching
Our instructors will observe your riding, give you clear feedback and help you make adjustments you can feel immediately on the motorcycle.
➤ Time to practise
You’ll have the opportunity to repeat the exercises, make changes and build familiarity with the techniques throughout the day.
➤ Understanding the “why”
We don’t just tell you what to do. We explain the principles behind the technique so you understand why it works — and how to adapt it when the road, the corner or the situation changes.
The goal isn’t simply to complete the exercises — it’s for you to leave understanding how to use these skills on the road.
Already Trained With Us?
If you’ve completed a SMART Rider Academy course before, Ride with Confidence gives you the opportunity to take those roadcraft principles further and spend more time developing your braking and cornering skills.
It’s a chance to revisit what you already know, refine your technique and put it into practice in a controlled environment.
What Riders Say
We’ve coached riders with very different levels of experience — from people returning to riding after a long break to riders with decades on the road.
What they often tell us is that the course gives them a better understanding of what they’re doing, more confidence in their technique and a clearer way to approach braking and cornering.
“I used to get nervous every time I saw a tight corner. Now I actually enjoy them – and I’m not second-guessing myself anymore.” — Rachael
“Absolutely fantastic course! I regained skills I had lost over 50 years of riding motorcycles!!” — Dale
“Good to have a review of techniques theory and a positive critique.” — Ken
Take Better Skills onto Your Next Ride
By the end of the day, you’ll have a stronger understanding of how to read the road, prepare for a corner, manage your speed and control the motorcycle with more confidence.
More importantly, you’ll understand why the techniques work and how to adapt them when the road, the corner or the situation changes.
Better braking. Better cornering. Better decisions.
Places are limited so we can keep the groups small and give each rider meaningful individual coaching.
