    Description

This half-day event has been developed specifically for HMCCQ members who ride classic and historic motorcycles.

It is not a track day, and it is not a generic rider training course with a different name attached.

The focus is on giving you the opportunity to explore braking, cornering and machine control in a controlled environment, using the motorcycle you’re passionate about owning and riding.

Historic motorcycles can be extremely rewarding to ride, but they often require a different approach to braking, corner setup, momentum and smoothness. This session gives you the chance to better understand your own motorcycle, refine your technique and build confidence without the distractions and hazards of a public road.

    Who this event is for

This event is for you if you ride a classic or historic motorcycle and want to better understand how your motorcycle responds under braking and cornering.

It is suitable whether you have many years of riding experience or are newer to historic motorcycles.

The course is not about telling experienced riders how to ride. It is about creating a safe, structured environment where you can work with the unique characteristics of your own motorcycle and take away practical techniques you can use on club rides and tours.

    What we will cover

During the session, you will work through practical exercises covering:

    • Braking techniques for drum and early disc brake systems
Explore how your own motorcycle responds under normal and emergency braking, and better understand the distance it needs to stop safely.
    • Corner entry planning and setup
Practise the sequence of braking, gear selection and throttle control before corner entry, with adjustments for the characteristics of older motorcycles.
    • Cornering line selection
Learn how to choose lines that improve vision, maintain momentum and reduce risk, while adapting to surface changes, camber, corner radius and unexpected hazards.
    • Observed laps with instructor feedback
Ride the Mt Cotton circuit in small groups using a lead-and-follow coaching technique, giving you the opportunity to observe, practise and receive feedback in a controlled environment.

What you will gain from the event

    • Increased confidence using the braking performance available on your motorcycle
    • Better control and smoother technique in corners
    • Greater understanding of your motorcycle and your own riding ability
    • Reduced stress and panic in challenging situations
    • Practical techniques you can use on club rides and tours

    What to bring with you

    • A registered and roadworthy motorcycle
    • Enough fuel for the session
    • A helmet that meets Australian requirements (AS/NZS 1698:2006 or ECE 22.06)
    • Riding jacket, pants, gloves and boots
    • Water and any personal items you may need
